Hyde Park

Best for: Tourists

This park is a must-see for visitors of the capital, as you can't say you have been to London without visiting its most famous park. It is also great for tourists as the East entrance of the park is very close to the upmarket shops found on Bond Street. Hyde Park is one of London's Royal Parks, and it is free to enter. It covers a vast 350 acres making it one of the most significant open, green spaces in London. You can see the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain, open water swim or rent a boat in the Serpentine. Due to Hyde Park’s central location and popularity, expect lots of tourists but also many locals from the exclusive surrounding areas, either working out or walking their small dogs–there's enough space for all!

Green Park

Best for: Book Worms

Located between Hyde Park and St James Park is Green Park, covering an area of just over 40 acres. It is famous for its Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Walk, which is a seven-mile-long walk, mapped out by 90 plaques in the ground that take you to locations associated with her life. If you would like to sit or sunbathe you can hire deck chairs from March through to October at any of the Royal Parks. This park has slightly less to see than the others on the list (although you can see Buckingham Palace which is located to the south of the park) making it perfect for those wanting some alone time to relax or read.

Kensington Gardens

Best for: Royal Family Fans

This park (which is essentially just the west-side of Hyde Park) is perfect for those interested in history and the Royal family as it was once the private gardens of Kensington Palace. This is another of London’s Royal Parks covering an area of 265 acres. You can visit the Diana Memorial Playground if you have children or visit the Serpentine galleries & Kensington Palace if you are interested in architecture and history.

St James's Park

Best for: Wildlife Lovers

This park makes our list not only because of its beautiful location (it is surrounded by Buckingham Palace, Clarence House & Whitehall) but also because of the large variety of wildlife you will find here. By wildlife we don't just mean ducks; Pelicans are frequently seen resting by the water’s edge in this 57-acre park. This park is also ideally located close to Covent Garden and its surrounding areas. It may be smaller than other London parks, but it has beautifully maintained flower gardens and it is the perfect place to escape the crowds of the busy surrounding areas.
